A Few that Got Away |
|
Rick Shumway has waited an entire year to try to nail the Marlin that was lost in July, 2001. So this year on the ANTICIPATION, despite a few hook ups, none that we could even call 'catch and release', this old Marlin has decided to hang around for another year, put on a few more pounds and give Rick a run for his money in 2003. |

Same story for Jose Luis and Maria Rebolleda and friends Nadine and Fred on a day spent on the STRIKE ONE. The Marlin hit but we could not keep them on. Phil's theory for the high loss rate of the marlin is that there is a vast number of giant Manta Rays in the fishing areas and the fact that their skin is so abrasive, a slight touch can break the taut line. Jose Luis commented that even without fish, it was a beautiful day on the open ocean. |

Ditto for a charter on the beautiful new DISCOVERY on the 26th of June. Allen Simon and his party from San Francisco also had two line breaks while hooked up on Marlin. We could be accused of using inferior line but this is just not the case. These 3 boats are the best that Marina Vallarta has to offer and they always provide the best gear available. The beautiful Manta Rays are lots more fun to dive with, aren't they? |

This is Phil's son-in-law Petr enjoying a Manta ray in the proper fashion. Check out his fabulous site to truly experience the flora and fauna of Mexico. Petr, a Czech native is truly into the preservation of endangered species. Nothing to do with fish, but then this is the page where there were no fish. |
